Media Monopoly Monday.

Media Monopoly Monday

For many years there has really only been a few options when it comes to your platform for social engagement online. And a select few of these companies seem to have gained a monopoly in the sphere of social media.

Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, just to name a few. All these tech giants have captured a large segment of the population on each of their platforms. Even though these platforms are “free”, they come with a price that may be more valuable than money itself...

They collect all your data while on the site. And some, even collect data when you’re off site.

They’re collecting all this data to send to certain advertisers, depending on what you do, so they can send you different ads and sell you stuff. It always comes down to marketing...

Many people are uncomfortable with this arrangement with social media companies, and they feel that paying a small fee would be much more preferable to these companies having access to what you are looking at online. And with the idea of privacy in mind, Vero was born!

Vero is a new social media app that has been out for a few years, but it’s just started to garner a lot of attention over the past, month or so.

Started by a billionaire named Ayman Hariri, who founded Vero because he was unsatisfied with the available social media platforms available to him, and how much they exposed him. This is a platform he promises will never use ads, and will not collect your data. There’s only one downside.  After the first million people sign up for Vero, there’s a “Small” fee.

How much? They haven’t disclosed that information, all they’ve said is, “About the price of a few cups of coffee a month”.. So probably like 10$ or something, which isn’t bad honestly if it lives up to it’s potential.

I’ve been trying it for the past few days, and it’s really smooth, no crashes so far.  I have read a few reviews and they said they had that problem though..

It’s very elegantly designed, has tons of filters for your pictures, and gives you oodles of ways to customize the way you post. Mostly, who’s going to see it, your most intimate inner circle, or the world at large it’s up to you.... But, I mean screen shots will always exist, so... :P

Ayman said he is trying to build a social media platform tailored more towards adults. And it’s off to a good start in my opinion.

Vero means true in Italian, but just how much truth their is to the claim that this is going to be the next be thing in social media. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see...

Happy Monday Everybody, I polished this one off, let me know what you think. My purple marker kind of died near the end, and the art store doesn't have the same color anymore, so hooray! Improvisation. :)... The other purple one started to die near the end as well, cause why wouldn't it! XD

Sincerely, Bret Frick.
