Melding Monday.

It’s getting more and more common for people to talk about the future we will have with robotics. Many people believe that we will one day meld with the machines and become immortal, and one “expert” in this area has now even set a date for when he expects this to happen.

A man called Dr. Ian Pearson said that “By 2050, it will only really be for the rich and famous. Most people on middle-class incomes and reasonable working-class incomes can probably afford this in the 2060s.So anyone 90 or under by 2060. If you were born sometime in 1970 onwards, that would make you 48 this year.So anybody under 50 has got a good chance of it, and anyone under 40 almost definitely will have access to this ”

Which made me think of few things... “Damn, I need too start eating better, cause there’s no way in hell I’m making it to 2050 at this rate” and “ I better invent something or sell a lot more art, cause turning yourself into iron man, in any way, even according to this guy is going to cost a lot, A LOT, of money.”

The few ways mentioned in the article I read included, “Renewing body parts”. Which would basically involve genetic engineering, that would either reverse or prevent the ageing of cells in the human body.

Or people may just be able to replace vital organs with bionic alternatives.

Even still the “futurologist” (yep that’s a thing) said that it will still be a long time before we are able to fix our bodies or rejuvenate any time we want... But not that far off.

There’s also the alternative possibility that we upload our minds into a cloud like device and live in the matrix. Something most people who believe that technological immortality is achievable, think is more likely than actually physically melding with machines.

As Doctor Pearson says....

“You could spend most of your time online in the virtual world, of course anywhere in the world on any computer. If you're online all the time, you could have a fantastic life online. It would be all virtual, so you could have anything you want. 72 virgins if that's what drives you; all of that, because it's totally imaginary. You could make as much fun as you could possibly imagine online. You might still want to come into the real world.”

If people could do that... how would we be able to distinguish between reality and fiction? How would we know when we were in the “Matrix”? And what would be the point of striving for anything, if we can just have anything?

I don’t know where we are headed with all this tech, but I know I’m interested... And somewhat terrified to see where leads us as a species.
